uncover your calling

uncover your calling

Many of us spend years searching for our calling, hoping it will magically appear one day. But finding your calling isn’t about adding something new to your life – it’s about peeling back the layers to reveal what’s already there.

In this blog, let me share with you some practices that helped me uncover my calling and align my life with purpose.

listen to your inner voice

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to drown out your inner voice – the one that whispers your deepest desires and truths. To reconnect with it, spend intentional time in silence. This could mean starting your mornings with a few minutes of meditation, setting aside an hour to journal, or simply taking a quiet walk without distractions. Let your thoughts flow freely, and ask yourself reflective questions like: What am I truly craving right now? What feels missing in my life?

Often, the answers are subtle and might not come immediately, but don’t dismiss them. Pay attention to recurring feelings or ideas. Your inner voice may not shout – it may whisper – but it carries the wisdom you need to uncover your calling. Create space for it to emerge, and trust what it has to say, even if it feels unconventional or outside your comfort zone.

reflect on childhood joys

Think back to your childhood: what brought you pure, unfiltered joy? Maybe it was painting, writing stories, building elaborate Lego worlds, or spending hours outdoors. Childhood passions often hold clues to what truly lights us up because they existed before societal expectations shaped our choices.

Revisit those memories and ask yourself: How can I bring elements of those joys into my life now? You don’t need to recreate them exactly; instead, think about the essence of those activities. If you loved drawing, it might indicate a creative streak that’s yearning for expression. If you enjoyed organizing games with friends, it could point to leadership or community-building skills. Let your younger self guide you back to the passions that align with your truest self.

notice what energizes you

Have you ever noticed how some activities leave you feeling drained, while others fill you with energy and excitement? These moments of vitality are not random. They’re signals pointing you toward your calling. Pay attention to when you feel most alive. Is it during conversations where you’re brainstorming ideas? Helping a friend through a tough time? Learning about a specific subject that sparks curiosity?

Take note of the people, activities, or topics that consistently light you up. These are not just hobbies or interests. They’re clues leading you to your purpose. Don’t underestimate them, even if they feel small or unrelated to your current path. Over time, these energized moments can reveal patterns that help you identify the unique role you’re meant to play in the world.

ask, “how can I serve?”

At the heart of every true calling lies a sense of contribution. Your gifts, talents, and passions are not just for you – they’re meant to impact others. Ask yourself, “How can I serve?” “What unique gifts do I have that can make a difference in the world?”

Service doesn’t have to be grand or global. It could mean uplifting your community, inspiring others with your art, or being a source of kindness and empathy in someone’s life. Your calling often lies at the intersection of what you love and what the world needs. When you align your passions with a greater purpose, you’ll find fulfillment not just in the work you do but in the impact it creates.

embrace the journey

Finding your calling isn’t about waking up one day with all the answers. It’s an unfolding process – a journey of discovery, trial, and evolution. You might try something that feels aligned, only to realize later that it was a steppingstone to something else. That’s okay. Every step, even the missteps, brings clarity.

Be patient with yourself and trust the journey. Allow space for curiosity and experimentation. Your calling may shift as you grow, and that’s part of the beauty of it. Instead of seeking a definitive answer, focus on living in alignment with your values, passions, and desires in the present moment. When you embrace the process, you’ll find that your calling isn’t a single destination. It’s a way of living fully and authentically.

Your calling is already within you, waiting to be uncovered. Trust the process, and remember – it’s never too late to realign with your purpose.
